Corner Canyon Women's Athletics

1. "90 Day Get Fit Blitz"
In January through March we will be having a Step/Stretch class on Tues/Thurs from 8:00 to 9:15 am by a certified instructor in a heated gym. (Bring your own STEP and mat). 13551 S. Tuscalee Hill Circle (top of Aintree Ave).

2. Basketball
Starting January 7th we will be combining again with the Draper Stake at their Stake Center on Thurs. from 9:00 - 10:00 pm to play basketball. The tournament will be mid March.

3. Volleyball
We had such a good time playing co-ed volleyball that we would like to do it again in the spring. I would like to do it by wards and set times so all could get more playing time. Plan your teams and let me know if you have a group to play. If not, we can easily combine wards.

4. Tennis
This spring/summer we would like to plan tennis games and a tournament for those interested. Please let me know if you are interested.

Letter from Trudy........Update on donations to the jail

Hi Tami,

I guess Floyd heard some incorrect information on the donations for scriptures for the women's branch at the jail. Only money can be accepted, because they are a certain kind that has been approved by the administrators. Some have wanted to include a written testimony and have it be a family project. Unfortunately, these will not be allowed. We can not even give out returned copies because of any writing with intended or non-intended messages they may contain. Hope this can be cleared up. I wouldn't want people who donated to be disappointed. Money (checks) can only be accepted by sending it to the branch presidency. We will try to get some donation envelopes for anyone who needs one.
President A Gregory Brown
Metropolitan 2nd Branch
6071 Macondray Circle
Murray, Ut 84123
Also on another note: Some sisters have asked about yarn. This needs to be certain colors and certain brands. This is because more than one sister may work on a blanket and they need to be laundered before we donate them to Primary Children's Hospital. The content may be unknown, so a blanket with different colors may partly shrink, leaving it un-useable. These are the specifications:
Brand Red Heart Super Saver
Type Worsted Medium (4) Net Wt 7 0z
Colors 0724 Baby Pink, 0381 Light Blue, 0311 White, 0345 Baby Print, 0322 Pale Yellow
Or one other is the BERNAT brand Baby Sport Color: B#MP230 Mint.
The Yarn described above is usually available at Wal-Mart, Jo-Ann Fabric and other Craft Stores( Roberts, Michaels etc,)

Maybe this information can be included on our Relief Society Web page so our sisters can refer to it if needed. (absolutely, perfect place for it!!)
Thanks for all you do, Love, Trudy Nielsen

Thought you'd like to know:

· Julie Larson used to be a math teacher

· Carolyn Reed taught Spanish

· Meisha Allred was on the Children’s Friend cover for April 1979

Do you know something interesting about a friend or neighbor that we would all love to know? Do tell, we'd be happy to share!! It's so fun to get to know each other better :)

Sending Condolences....

Judy Richins' father passed away Sunday evening at the ripe age of 91, given one more month he would have been 92. A rich and full life if you ask Judy. As the founder of Layton Construction the monuments to his life are all around us. His company along with two others built the Conference Center and afterward they had the privilege of working on the Nauvoo Temple as well, he was the contractor for the Harold B. Lee Library along with other buildings on BYU's campus. His last big project before he retired was the Jordan River Temple. Even with all these credits to his name and to his continuing company, his greatest success is found in Judy and her brothers and sisters and the love of his wife who has been by his side for 60+ years.

Watch for the obituary in the Deseret News on Thursday. Our love is with you Judy!

News Flash!!

Two of Lori Russell's foster children are being baptised this Sunday! Just how great is that?!? We know that you may not know them well but you absolutely need to know them. Jordan Marsh is 14, we would love the young men to get involved (the young women will probably naturally be involved-he's cute) and Drevon is 8 so that involves all the primary kids. C.J. is 6 and is looking forward to the time he gets to be baptised too.

The baptism will be at 5:00 p.m.- right after church and we would like everyone to come. They will love being part of a big ward family and to see just how much we care.

If any of you girls have a great cookie or brownie recipe and want to show your talents or if you just want to make the good standbys please call Jeanna Bruse and volunteer for a warm feeling and blessings.

Thanks for all you are! Your adoring Relief Society

Baby Boy Bitner!

There is a new Bitner in the world! Just when you thought the family could not get any better they added one more. Little Noah arrived last Thursday at 8 lbs. 8 ozs. and is 21 inches long. He is already saying "I LOVE YOU MOM AND DAD" ...or was that just his eyes talking.

Mary and Noah came home yesterday and they are doing great. So send them love through the mail, the phone, from your computer, at the doorstep, through concentrated I love you thoughts, or by bended knee. All of the above will be Bitnerly bonding.

New Recipes!!

Have you noticed?
Have you checked?
Do you know where to find them??

Scroll on down...down a little more - right there! In the right hand column, there is a listing of CC2 blogs! Now, some of them are active (the Scouts), some not so much (the YM)....but there is another treasure....the Recipe Blog!!

In lieu of attempting another ward cookbook, we are attempting to create a gathering place that is freely accessible by all where we can find our most sought after recipes. I have been adding some of the ones I have from past "recipe exchange" events, and eventually I will have the rest of those on there :)....also, there are a few salsa recipes that Marcela was kind enough to share with us from Salsa Night - and most recently there is Shirley's delicious Apple Butternut Squash Soup recipe from Terrific Tuesday!!

I know - isn't it great?? Now the next time you want one of those yummy ward recipes, you won't have to go digging through your piles of paper (oh come on, it can't just be me!! ;)....) you can just log on and find it (hint - use the "labels" to click and narrow your search!). Handy, right?

Know what else would be great?? If you shared some more recipes with all of us! I know there has been many requests for the rest of the soup recipes from Terrific Tuesday - so if you brought a soup, then share! :) It's super easy - just email it to me (ammlamb@hotmail.com) and I will get it Right On There!

Thanks!!

We would appreciate it if the young women could bring their items to church so we can set up the display table before 6:30.

"Share the Warmth" Report

Shirley Nault reported back to us that the Stake RS "Share the Warmth" endeavor was a Great Success! Thanks to all who participated - - Shirley says the children were so darling, but that next time we need more boys shoes, and to include socks , apparently none of the kids seemed to have them. :(

Note from Tami.......

Last week that man of mine was just hankering for zucchini bread and guess who never got the zucchini going in the spring? Spaghetti squash bread simply didn’t seem to come up in the google attempt, neither did radish or broccoli bread. What’s a girl to do? She gets herself down to Rasumussen Farms and buys and I did say buys zucchini. The bread turned out to be fabulously tasty if I do say so myself but where are the days of zucchini and run. It was the game we played every fall where I grew up and I think I really miss it.

How about it girls are you in? Let’s play a round of vegetable Duck, Duck, Goose. Stand where you are, put your right arm up and pledge to never and I mean never pay for zucchini again. This is how it will be played. We will all put vine ripening vegetables on the blog and hear us now, only the great stuff that will go to waste because your family has put a ban on the 7 course tomato meals, you are too pooped to bottle, can or freeze more, or you are hoping that the patch will be taken over by vegetable fairies that will leave love in place of the look of labor on the vine.

Simply post your over abundance and see what miracles can occur. If you don’t have a garden, watch for your favorites to appear on this very screen and then cease the moment and hug a friend – you might offer her a slice of zucchini bread. Believe me she will think that she is the fortunate one.

Thanks girls!!!!!!!!!!! Oh how we love ya

It’s quilting time!!

On Thursday, the evening of September 10th at 7 pm, we will meet at the home of Sharon Langston for quilt tying and treats. Sharon is due to have her baby soon, so if she has the little one before then, we will post the new location. Also, on Tuesday, the morning of September 15th at 10 am, we will have a 2nd quilting party at the home of April Feller.

Please let Nancee Arnovick or Jolynn Skousen know if you are interested and plan on attending either, or both of these events. We could really use your help, plus it will be a lot of fun!

Christopher Connelly

We're so happy to hear that Christopher's surgery went well yesterday. Jodi said it couldn't have gone better. He underwent some reconstructive repair around his eye socket after a diving accident. He is home and resting.

Parking Lot Break-in

Just a word of warning once again--
Another car was broken into on Sunday during the temple dedication at our Stake Center. The car window was shattered and a purse was stolen with several valuables. The police said that there are also numerous break-ins during wedding receptions and funerals because most women don't want to carry their purses in with them. Unfortunately, we've seen it happen in our own ward during church and Enrichment meetings. For your protection please keep your valuables with you or if they must remain in the car, make sure they are out of sight or in your trunk. This isn't an effort to raise fear but to be better protected.

Yard Sale

The Friends of Heidi Albiston (Tammy Nash's Sister) will be holding a YARD SALE for Heidi's family, in order to raise money to help with the costs incurred, while Heidi has fought brain cancer over the past 16 months. Her family has drained most of their resources and would be so grateful with any items, that you would be willing to contribute to the YARD SALE, such as (toys, clothes, etc) that you normally would donate to Deseret Industries anyway. The money raised from your donated items will go to a very worthy cause. The YARD SALE will be held Saturday, September 12th, at 700 East 9500 South in Sandy. If you have items that you are willing to donate please call Tammy Nash at 801-572-0844 and we will gladly make arrangements to pick them up from you at your home. Anything that we don't sell at the YARD SALE will be donated to Deseret Industries located on 700 East and 9300 South near the Sandy Mall. Thanks in advance for your generosity!!
Sincerely, Tammy and Glen Nash

Exercise class

Rachel Neeley is new in our ward and is offering the following wonderful opportunity!!

I wanted to let you know that I taught a strength training class in 3rd ward at our building(Steeple Chase) at 6am Tuesday and Thursdays. I plan to start the classes again Sept 15th. My plan is to include 2nd and 3rd wards in our building (stake center).Anyone choosing to join us will need 1-5lb hand weights and a yoga mat.I do legs on Tuesdays and arms on Thursdays. Stretching and Abs both days. 3rd ward is really excited to get going again. Also, If anyone has suggestions on different times - I am open, I want to use the time that works best for the majority. If there were enough that wanted a night class - I could do 2 different classes.
PS - I also have two glass bowls still at my house, left from all the yummy food - 1 is clear and the other is green with design.my # is 244-5502 if anyone has questions or just come and get them.
Thanks
Rachel Neeley

What's Cookin'??

Guess what? I've added a bunch of recipes to our little CC2 Recipe Blog!
I'm working on adding all the recipes that I have collected at our recipe exchanges and cooking classes.....there are a LOT! :) So....some are in, more still to come!

If you have a new favorite recipe you'd like to share, or a great cooking tip - email them to me, I will make sure they get on there! What a great resource for us all - an online always accessible cookbook - no more searching for that lost slip of paper - just click on a category (on the right hand column) and voila - a list of perfect recipes!

Yay! Ok - send in more recipes, though - let's all help make this a great resource!

Thanks!

(also, let me know if there are any typos, my little fingers were getting a bit tired there! ;).....)

Draper Temple Baptistry

Just a reminder of the church policy that when endowed adults come to the baptistry, they may not use temple-file names to be baptized and confirmed. Un-endowed youth from our temple district are always welcome to use temple-file names, but when endowed adults come to participate in the baptistry ordinances, they must bring family-file names with them. This includes the brethren who accompany youth groups as well if they wish to be baptized.
Also a reminder that youth groups need to wear church clothing and come in the baptistry entrance when filling their reservations.

Thanks for all your hard work,

Brother and Sister Morgan

Family History Expo

Here is more info on this Saturday's Family History Expo for all who might be interested. The EXPO is actually Draper's very first community non-denominational COST-FREE Family History event and has been advertised in all our local newspapers, including Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News. This event is sponsored by the Draper Public Library, Draper Chamber of Commerce, the Historical Society of Draper and the LDS Church's five-Stake Family History Center. There will be a complimentary packet of handouts and syllabus from each class given to all attendees. You can attend one class or as many as you would like. Everyone has worked really hard to make this a memorable event to help create an interest in our community for tracing one's ancestry. The online pre-registration ends Wed. May 13th but it would be ok to just show up to the class or classes Saturday also as there may still be seats available. For LDS members, this is a good missionary opportunity to invite neighbors and friends as many people are interested in their ancestry and how to get going on it. Thousands of records are being posted online every day making it much easier to find and link our families. Bonnie Whitley will be teaching a 45 minute class at 1:30 p.m. on jumpstarting your family history and tips for finding your family records using Salt Lake City's Libary Catalog. Classes -10:30- instructors at the Draper Public Library- Ghostbusters: the genealogy genies- how to use the free subscription websites at the library with your library card; 12:30- What's New at FamilySearch.org- and there's a lot new, many changes coming! instructor-trainer at FH Center; 1:30- Tips for using the FH Library Catalog and how to jumpstart + complimentary PAF 5 CD's available to use at home- Bonnie's class; 2:30-Intro to using Personal Ancestral File and tips for organizing your genealogy3:30- Draper Historical Society Library & Museum4:30- Family History Center resouces, including multi-mediaOur CC2. Young Adults

We welcome many of our young adult sisters home for the summer. We realize some are home temporarily, some are coming and going, and some will stay put until fall! Since it worked so well last summer, we invite mothers of young adult aged daughters to involve them in their visiting teaching once again. You can do one visit or more with your daughter and the rest with your partner. Please discuss this with your VT partners and your daughters to establish what will work best. We will start this month and continue through August. Mothers, we'd ask you and your partners to again act as your daughter's visiting teachers. You know their schedules best and may like the excuse to make an appointment to visit with them!

Spencer and Heather have moved

For those who may not know, Spencer and Heather Richins have moved their sweet family to St. George. Spencer has taken a great job there so the family has headed to a sunnier clime. Fortunately, we'll still get to see them when they come here to visit their families! We're so grateful for their loving examples and influence during their time in the ward. We wish them much happiness in their new venture.

Josiah Douglas is doing well

Josiah Douglas is home now and recuperating well from hip replacement surgery. He and Linda were visiting family in Idaho when he fell from a ladder and broke his hip. He had surgery that very night. They returned home yesterday. Bro. Douglas was told he is in very good physical condition and has the body of a much younger man. He will heal well because of it. Good motivation for us all to stay as physically active as Bro. Douglas! We wish him a speedy recovery.

Tiffany Varney is coming home!

The good news is....Tiffany Varney is coming home on Tuesday, May 12! Here is a request from Patty. They are busy preparing things at home for Tiffany's arrival. They need an aerobic step that someone might be willing to donate or Patty will buy it. It is the perfect height for Tiffany to step on to get into the car. Please call Patty at home if you can help---572-7415. Thank you!

Welcome New Neighbors!

Sharon Langston and her husband, Reid, have just moved into 13603 Bridle Trail Circle (the Norberg's former home). They have five children from age 11 to 18 months and a baby girl is expected in September. Sharon grew up in San Jose, CA, attended UVSC where she met her husband. They have come from the Holladay, Utah area. For hobbies Sharon mentions camping in a tent. She also loves "girls night out". We hope everyone will take time to get acquainted with this busy homemaker. Phone: 801-523-1205.

Go Jessie!

Jessie Scott moved all five toes on his right foot last night--for the very first time! He loves his new therapy where he goes swimming Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Keep up the good work, Jessie!

Temple Service Opportunity

There is a great opportunity to serve in the temple during the day for a couple of hours once a month. If anyone is interested contact Jolynn Skousen for details.

FYI - Hollee Mackay

Hollee Mackay is going in for Knee Surgury tomorrow in Hong Kong. She has a torn ACL they will be fixing. It would be nice to keep her in our prayers.

New Resource!!

You asked - and we heard!

We have such wonderful cooks in our ward, and we are always asking for a copy of this recipe or that recipe. Well - search no more!

We now have a CC2 Recipe Blog! This will be a Great Place to consolidate and store all those much requested recipes, and this way - we can all get a copy! (Just look over on the sidebar, and you will see a link you can click on to visit the recipe blog!)

All we need you to do is make sure that when someone says, "Yum - I would love a copy of that recipe!" - or even if you just have one you Know we would all want! - forward it to us!

Then we can get it posted, and we can all know right where to find it!

Happy Cooking!

Good News - 4/19/09

Here is some of the "Good News" that was shared in RS today:

Monica Sturdevant shared that she & Charlie & their girls will be sealed as a family in the Salt Lake Temple on April 30, their anniversary!

Shawn & Florencia Mikkelson will be being sealed this Thursday.........

And - (keeping the temples busy!) - Dustin & Andrea Miller will be sealed to their baby Avery very soon - Congrats to all!!

Linda Douglas' grandson was called to serve a mission in India.

Linda Miller will be heading to Florida with her son, Jake, as he competes in a national competition - good luck!

(Not "Good" news, but Important News, nonetheless!!) - Cutler's house was broken into around 1 am in the morning the night after they got back in town this past week --baseball bat through the front window. She says get your mail each day, pick up your newspapers and leave your porch light on at night.

Save the date.....May 14th @ 6:30 pm

Please mark your calendars for our upcoming activity in May. We will be privileged to hear from the "Utah Famous" Matt Townsend! He is a national speaker and relationship expert who empowers people and organizations to succeed by teaching them fundamental skills of positive and effective communication and productive relationships. Through entertainment and HUMOR, he teaches life-changing principles and skills to increase success and productivity. He can be heard every Saturday at 11:00 am, hosting his radio program "The Matt Townsend Show", on KSL News Radio. He is also a frequent visitor on "Studio 5". He is working on a new book that will be released soon, "Feeding the Starved Relationship". We are very fortunate that he is willing to come and speak to our ward, and we hope that you will all make an extra effort to come, and bring your friends, sisters, neighbors, or anyone else you think could benefit. It is sure to be an amazing night, and you can't pass up yummy desserts too! We will begin at 6:30 in the RS room. Look forward to seeing you there!

A Shared Experience....

I keep thinking about a sweet experience I had in the temple yesterday and wanted to share it with the Sisters.......

A young man around 13 came alone early yesterday morning to do work in the baptistry. Sometime later a woman came to the baptistry recommend desk. She was looking for her son. She said he was autistic and was missing. She said he had come to the temple 3 times before--walking 5 miles to get there. She wondered if he had returned to the temple once again. The brother at the recommend desk asked her if she had a recommend. She said no, "but my son is really helping me feel that I want one." Sure enough, he was there. He had walked alone those many miles to come to the Lord's house to perform sacred ordinances.
